Where it all begins...

To a lot of home styling enthusiasts the story behind a product, what inspired it and how it was created is really important. It enables us to have trust that the product is not only on trend, but of excellent quality.

We spoke to Danielle Willemsen, Adairs textile designer, about our ‘Inspired By Nature’ Spring Collection to get the inside scoop on how the range has come together.

What was your overall design inspiration for the Spring collection?

Spring has been inspired by flowers, plants, stems and greenery. Through our key bedlinen designs, we’ve aimed to convey the very natural, calm and delicate qualities of the season.

Green spaces are becoming increasingly sought after. Plants are entering the home in new ways, and in abundance. The fresh, light palette is truly spring. Soft pinks, peaches and aquas continue to be strong for us, and these coordinate beautifully with the sage green products we’re introducing through the season.

Through our travels, and time in the design studio, we are constantly researching trends, and colour forecasting to keep our designs new and on trend.

Can you tell us about some of the specific styles used to illustrate this?

The oriental or Chinoiserie style fits beautifully into this theme. The decorative, floral nature, used alongside birds and butterflies conveys a fresh and luxurious look for the bedroom. The two bedlinen designs that really showcase this theme for us are ‘Chinoiserie’ and ‘Wabi Sabi’, which were developed and hand-painted by the Adairs in-house design team. Both are perfect master bedroom statements.

What other trends have been incorporated this season?

Another strong design trend currently is Australian Natives. We’ve integrated our passion for Australiana across various product ranges this Spring Summer, from bedlinen, soft furnishings and homewares, to Christmas decorations.

Also, due to their current popularity, gumleaves, Australian fauna and birds, such as cockatoos, are featured throughout our collection. These are showcased on our 'Cockatoo' and 'Watercolour Native' designs (coming soon) both of which were drawn and hand-painted in our studio using watercolours and pencil. The high quality printing that our factories have managed to achieve really is beautiful!
