Cate Blanchett

Australia’s golden screen icon, Cate Blanchett, needs little introduction.

Her latest award scoop is an Oscar for Best Actress in Blue Jasmine, which comes after a string of wins for Best Actress at the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes earlier in 2014.

If you haven’t seen this film yet, do so! Blanchett’s performance in this film – dubbed as “soaring” by Margaret Pomeranz on the ABC’s At the Movies – captivates from the first moment to the very last. It also confronts, as Blanchett plays a challenging character that somehow still manages to inspire compassion, despite her flaws.

She’s also on the big screen in The Monuments Men directed by George Clooney, and has a swag of other films in production, including Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Undoubtedly one of Australia’s greatest and most versatile actresses, Blanchett has demonstrated her range in over 30 films since 1994, a filmography which has earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, three BAFTAs, and an Academy Award for her portrayal of Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator.

Blanchett cites her marriage to Australian playwright and director Andrew Upton as a turning point in both of their lives. After nearly five years as co-artistic director at the Sydney Theatre Company with Upton, Blanchett has recently stepped away from the role, and Blue Jasmine was her first film since doing so.

Blue Jasmine director Woody Allen described securing Blanchett for the film as “like having an atomic weapon” to Variety Magazine: others who have worked with her describe her, more prosaically, as down-to-earth, hilarious, and a natural clown.

We love what we see: her natural style, elegance, grace and dignity. Keep it coming, Cate!
