5 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Winter.

Winter is coming, and the cold weather will be here before you can say ‘brrrr’. Ward off the Winter blues by getting a head start on the cold with these 5 tips:


1. Change your bedding: Clean and store your lighter summer quilts and sheets, and make the bed with warmer quilts or blankets instead. Flannelette sheets will help retain your body heat, keeping you nice and warm. Finally, layer on some throws for extra cosiness and style. It’s also a great time to clear out your linen cupboard of old blankets. Give them to charity and help keep someone else warm this Winter.

2. Get your windows ready: If you live in an older style home you might need to seal up your windows to stop the cold air from coming in and get better efficiency from your heating. Window shutters, heavier curtains or blinds are also good options for keeping out the cold.

3. Clean out your wardrobe: Be ruthless. If you haven’t worn it in 12 months let it go. If you’re short on space pack up your summer clothes. Plastic storage tubs allow clothes to breathe and are a great option for keeping your space organised.

4. Keep your feet warm with rugs: The feeling of a luxurious warm rug, like sheepskin underfoot is so much nicer than an icy tiled, timber or concrete floor! Try placing rugs anywhere your feet touch the ground. In front of your favourite chair, next to the bed, in the bathroom or home office.

5. Bring the outdoors in with flowers and greenery. Liven up your living area with a splash of colour. If you’re not a green thumb, faux plants and flowers are a great option.
