Wonderful Wool

This fascinating fibre is truly versatile and, as Australians, one of our proudest exports. Take a moment from your day to marvel at these five fabulous facts about wonderful wool.

  •  Wool is the only known fibre that can help regulate body temperature; it will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. It has been used for thousands of years by desert dwellers, who rely on wool to protect them from the heat of the day and cold of the night.
  • Sheep's wool is naturally UV protectant.
  • Wool is an excellent choice for baby clothing and cloth diapering because of its ability to wick moisture away from the skin, and absorb up to a third of its weight in fluids. It also has natural antibacterial and dirt repelling properties. This means it is not necessary to wash your woollens too frequently.
  • Wool is very resilient – it can be bent and stretched over 30,000 times and still not damage or break. This natural elasticity allows it to be stretched as much as 1/3 of its length and still snap back into shape.
  • Lanolin is a substance extracted from the fleece. Medical-grade lanolin is so clean that it is used following medical procedures to keep wounds moist and to assist in speeding up the healing process.

So hip-hip-hooray for warm, wonderful wool!
